Teddy Afro

Tewodros Kassahun Germamo, known as Teddy Afro (Amharic: ቴዲ አፍሮ), was born in Addis Ababa on 14 July 1976. Wikipedia names his parents as the singer and songwriter Kassahun Germamo and the dancer Tilaye Arage. Wikipedia lists Ethiopian music and reggae fusion, activity since 2001, and the site teddyafro.info. The official YouTube channel used on ethio.music chart rows is @TeddyAfroOfficial. This profile follows the Wikipedia page fetched on 29 September 2026, plus chart figures already logged in ethio.music files. It does not add ranks those files do not print.

The debut album is Abugida (2001, Nahom Records and Massinko Entertainment). Wikipedia lists a second album, Teddy (recorded 2000, released 2002, AIT Records), then the single-length Tarik Tesera (2004, Evangadi Production) and Yasteseryal (2005, Nahom and Electra Music Shop in Ethiopia). The page says the title song criticized government corruption and that four songs from the album, including “Yasteseryal,” were banned from Ethiopian media. It also says the album sold more than a million copies within a few months, that “Hab Dahlak” treats the Ethiopia-Eritrea split through the image of a couple separating, and that the media restriction ended after the governing party left power in April 2018, after which he performed the songs at Meskel Square.

Wikipedia’s personal-life section says he was arrested on 6 December 2006 over an alleged hit-and-run, sentenced to six years and an 18,000 birr fine, and released in August 2009 for good conduct. After that release he put out Tikur Sew on 14 April 2012 (AdikaRecords), described there as a homage to Emperor Menelik II and the Battle of Adwa. The page quotes producer Ashenafi Zeleke on market orders of 500,000 CDs and 200,000 cassettes. Ethiopia followed on 2 May 2017 (Nahom). Wikipedia says it reached No. 1 on the Billboard World Albums chart that month, with more than 600,000 units sold by then. Non-album singles dated on the page include “Be 70 Dereja” (22 August 2014), “Demo Be Abay” (3 August 2020), about the Abbay and the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, “Armash” (2 November 2021), “Na’at” (21 June 2022), and “Beza” (1 March 2024).

On 27 September 2012 he married the actress, model, and producer Amleset Muchie at the Sheraton Hotel. Wikipedia says she directed the video for “Mar eske Tuwaf,” a rendition of Love to the Grave (Fikir Eske Meqabir), and that they have four children and live in Addis Ababa. In 2021 he received an honorary doctorate from Gondar University and went to Gondar with his wife to accept it. A concert title on the page, Adwa! Wede Fikir Guzo, is dated 22 February 2020 at Meskel Square.

The comeback album Etorika is dated 16 April 2026 on Addis Zema. Wikipedia’s track list includes “Das Tal (Ansaw),” “Sememene (GuRaggae),” “Tayegn,” “Ze Tsedal,” “Merkeb,” and “Jember,” sixteen titles in all. The article says that, as with Yasteseryal, the release was treated as politically sensitive, that a press conference was obstructed, and that the Coalition for Ethiopian Unity condemned that step. It also cites Meseret Media for a report that about 105 young people were arrested in Addis Ababa on 17 April while streaming “Das Tal (Ansaw).” Those lines are Wikipedia’s account, not a fresh investigation.

On the desk’s boards he is the repeated official-channel presence of 2026. The 20 September sources snapshot copies Kworb’s YouTube Ethiopia weekly chart ending 10 September: “Shih Bibal (Back to 90s)” at No. 2 (736,469 weekly streams, 22 weeks, peak No. 1), with “Ze Tsedal,” “Tayegn,” and “Das Tal (Ansaw)” next, and a Kworb video page for “Das Tal” at 39,547,586 views, published 2026/04/16. The frozen Amharic Secular board for the week ending 24 September still has “Shih Bibal” at No. 3 (669,836), with further Etorika titles inside the ten. OEmbed for “Shih Bibal” and “Das Tal” names the author Teddy Afro and the channel @TeddyAfroOfficial. Playback stays there.
